The trail follows the levada, which dates back to the 16th century and was built to irrigate the agricultural terraces in the area.<\/p><p>Along the way, you&#8217;ll pass through small tunnels, over narrow bridges, and past traditional farmhouses that offer a glimpse into the rural way of life on Madeira Island. The sound of running water will accompany you for much of the walk, as the levada carries water down from the mountains to the fields below.<\/p><p>One of the highlights of the walk is the Miradouro da Serra d&#8217;\u00c1gua, a viewpoint that offers a stunning panorama of the valley below.
